Day 17: Terradillos de los Templarios - El Burgo Ranero

Leaving the albergue in the morning we got quite a scare: just a couple of steps out of the door and Luís almost slipped on the ice. Good warning though, everything else was covered in ice! We could have "skied" our way into Sahagún, basically. But we chose the hard way to go and tried to walk out of there. 3km/hour was the best we could achieve for the first hour in the morning. Then it gradually got better as we went.

Everything was frozen solid. We broke the vegetation as we touched it while walking, it was crazy! But soon enough the temperature rose and the ice started melting. By the time we reached Sahagún there was only a bit of snow on the rooftops. We made a quick stop to buy something to eat before leaving this town. Only to retrace our steps a few hundred meters afterwards as Luís noticed we had to get to an ATM and that we wouldn't find another one for at least 40km!

We wanted to stay in Bercianos del Real Camino, but by the time we got there we found out that the albergue was closed due to renovations.. So we had to walk another 7km to El Burgo Ranero. We arrived exhausted! And there was no heating at the albergue.. but at least we could have some rest. This albergue was built in the same manner as many small buildings we came across on the camino: bricks made of mud and hay! Very traditional, although Luís wasn't too sure if it would hold :P
