About us:

I'm Rita and he's Luís.  He's an assistant fleet manager and I'm a veterinarian. We are a Portuguese couple with a passion for hiking, traveling and discovering.

The adventure:

For some years now we have been talking about walking El camino de Santiago, particularly "the french way", a 800km route between the french Pyrenees and Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, Spain. After seeing the movie "The Way" by Emilio Estevez, the interest grew more than ever. But taking one month off (or more, ideally) to take part on such adventure isn't very practical, so we sat and waited for that opportunity to come to us. 

Finally, that time has arrived! And now we're getting ready to start walking on February 1st 2014.

About this blog:

As we searched for information about The French way to Santiago de Compostela, we decided that starting a blog about our own journey would be a nice way to share every step of the way with whoever might be thinking of walking the same path, helping others overcome the same fears, difficulties or doubts we might have.

First of all, when we decided to start this blog we discussed whether we should write it in English or Portuguese. As we're both Portuguese, we first thought it would make sense to write it in our native language, as it would be easier. But then we realized that writing in English would allow us to reach more people all over the world, and that when you're thinking about walking the Way your doubts and questions will be basically the same, no matter where you live. Also, this way it would give us a chance to work on our language skills!

Overall, this blog is a work in progress! We'll try to keep updating it as we prepare for this journey, but only the future knows how things will turn out.

Sobre nós:

Eu sou o Luís e ela é a Rita. Ela é veterinária, eu sou assistente de gestor de frota. Somos portugueses e  apaixonados por longas caminhadas, viajar e descobrir o mundo.

A aventura:

Durante algum tempo fomos falando sobre o tema "Caminho de Santiago", sobretudo o caminho francês, que tem 800 km partindo dos pirinéus até Santiago de Compostela. Após vermos o filme "The Way" de Emilio Estevez fiquei particularmente apaixonado pela ideia. O mais difícil é ter tempo disponível para completar o percurso. Devido a este pormenor tivemos que aguardar ansiosamente que a oportunidade chegasse até nós.

Finalmente, essa oportunidade chegou! E estamos a preparar-nos para começar a caminhada em Fevereiro de 2014.

Quando procurámos informação sobre o caminho decidimos que começar este blog sobre a nossa viagem seria uma boa maneira de partilhar a nossa experiência com quem esteja a pensar fazer o mesmo caminho, ajudando-vos a ultrapassar medos, dificuldades ou dúvidas que possam ter.

Primeiro que tudo, quando decidimos começar este blog discutimos se haveríamos de escrever em português ou em inglês. Sendo ambos portugueses, achámos que escrever em português faria mais sentido. Contudo, decidimos escrever principalmente em inglês por forma a chegar a um maior número de pessoas e também treinar para o que virá a seguir!

Acima de tudo, este blog estará em constante evolução! Tentaremos mantê-lo actualizado enquanto preparamos a caminhada, mas não garantimos o resultado final!
